They are a chore to set up and tear down, especially with the screen. @MeefZah is correct, they definitely don't work everywhere and they are not a lunch time thing. We only use ours when we are stopping for a while. We got rid of our rooftop tent for the same reason, we didn't like be stuck setting it up and taking it down to drive somewhere during the day. I bought another set of poles and stakes and I keep the slumber "up" if we leave and are using it then back into it when we are back.

Good input. Thanks. Basically going into this the same way you did. For not a lot of money, it seems ok. I'll play around with it this summer and see how it goes.

I echo @MeefZah and @MyWyfsRnnr in that the Slumberjack tarp is not something easily setup for say a quick lunch stop. If I'm staying someplace for a few days, I'll set it up. What I do like about it, is how large it is, and how it helps provide a good shade footprint as well as a good dry footprint when it rains. I have been looking to get a second set of poles for it so I could set it up in a stand alone fashion. You can use just the two poles for a stand alone option, but I think that limits the space below it.
Here is a setup from last fall.

Forgot my old crappy one a few days ago and went to use the inverter to charge the dogs e-collar and remote, forgot to start the truck up and run it and of course the battery was dead when we tried to get out before the rain/sleet/snow came. I ordered one as soon as I got back and it was on sale on Amazon

Nice mods, and cool decal. Tho I’m puzzled by the 3:00 o’clock image. Beehive, rock cairn, coiled rattlesnake, or dog turd?

Thanks @HighSierraGuy! It’s a Dobinson 2 inch lift on 275’s. The details, my thought process, and guidance from @Crikeymike can be found in this thread: https://www.4runners.com/threads/seeking-lightweight-options-for-overland-build.36792/#post-554079.

My wife is very pleased with the on road handling. An upcoming RV trip and mods I am working on for the trip have delayed my being able to flex off road, unfortunately…

Took it in for a seat issue that’s going to require them taking the whole seat out to tear down. Got the oil changed while and let them change the air filters, too. $50 labor to install two filters. I should have known better.

That’s what I get for being lazy lol

How do you like those lights?
Im considering the same lights, either the wides or the floods
I want light around the front of the vehicle but concerned the floods would not go far enough to the front

Where did you mount the switch and how was the install?

I have not be on the road at night since I installed them, only in the driveway. However, they seem really bright but might need some adjusting. Quality is great. I will follow-up after I have been on the road at night. The instal was straightforward (after watching a couple online videos). I ran the switch wire through the firewall and mounted an aftermarket switch in one of the blank OEM switch spots. It looks factory. I hid all the wiring using zip ties and loom following where factory wiring is located.

Edit: I soldered the wires coming from the switch wire harness to the aftermarket switch wires. I did not use crimp connectors. I also extended the positive lead wire going to the battery, but that was only due to the mounting location I used for the relay and it helped me better hide the wire (not a necessary step).

It's such a pita to set up man. Don't get me wrong, for multiple days camping in one spot it's great! But it takes so long to set up and put away I hardly bother with it. Roof mounted awnings are 100% more convenient. The ease of setup means it will see much more use.
I'm glad I gave the roudhouse a shot but overall for the type of camping I do an awning makes so much more sense.

After sitting on my shop bench for a year I finally got around to installing the Bilstein 6112 leveling kit on the 4runner. She sits correct now. I dig it.

I also added a couple constant power 12v outlets in the rear cargo area for the ARB fridge.

Finally mounted my OVS 180 awning on the Gobi today. Lots of shade on demand now! Big thanks to @kojak for recommending some foam protection on the brackets and heat shrink on the u-bolts. Unfortunately, my dumbass overtightened the u-bolts on the last bracket and squished the tube, causing the powdercoat to crack all to hell. So, guess I have rust to look forward to until I remove it before winter and repaint to fix. I may get the Gobi brackets for this thing afterall because the OVS brackets don't fit where I want them to, especially with the sunroof insert.
