Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing my '95 4runner(automatic) to have trouble shifting from first to second gear? My rpms go crazy even if I'm just trying to get up to 20mph from a stop. I did just replace the MAF and the fuel injectors and before that I'd never had this problem. The only issue was a code 25 which we got to go away. Let me know if you need more info to help, thanks!

Define "RPMs go crazy". Like the engine revs out before it shifts into first?

To me it sounds like the transmission is slipping. Pray it's just low on fluid. I would check that.

Yes the engine revs out before it shifts. Okay I'll check that out. Thank you!

Mine did that many years ago. Turned out to be a sensor. Sorry that I do not remember which sensor it was. Check and see if it is throwing any new codes.

A340h (4wd) transmission right? If so its probably a shift solenoid. Its a well known problem on those transmissions. Fairly easy fix. Drop the pan and replace the solenoid, should shift fine again. General rule of thumb though is while you're in there change the trans filter and the other solenoids as they are probably on their way out too. Doesn't sound like a trans slipping problem to me

Got the same project going and I'm under there now to change the filter and solenoids but I can't seem to get the dang filter out. Anybody got any suggestions? Got dam near the same specs; 95, 4x4, automatic, a340h.
