285/70’s on Pro wheels

I’ve seen countless of people run this setup without issues. My question is where did you get them mounted and balanced?

Since the pro wheel is only 7” wide and recommended is 8.5” some shops won’t touch it due to that.

I found a great deal on a new set that I can’t pass up while visiting SoCal and I’m looking for a place that can install them for me.

 

Find a good off road shop, they will probably accommodate your needs.

 

I think shops don't cause problems when try to mount 285/70R17 on TRD Offroad wheels since they meet minimum width 17x7.5

I've been going to same Discount Tire shop for many tire needs for the 4Runners. So that shop didn't cause a trouble mounting 285/70R17 on 17x7 TRD Pro Wheels.
(BTW, this not not mean I approve to mount 285/70R17 on 17x7 TRD Pro wheels. I'm taking a risk going against tire manufacturers spec.)

 

I am running 285/75/17’s with no problems, The Truck Shop installed mine.

 

I heard the same thing. Went to 3 shops and all said no problem. I run 285 Toyos and they are great. Just make sure you have the clearance

 

I have the clearance. About 10 years ago I had this exact issue with my jeep but in 35x12.5, no shop would mount it. Given it was just a full size spare to get me off the trail and not for the road, so I mounted it myself and didn’t balance it.

 

Tire Mfg’s have been making tires for how long now? They design tires with specifications in order to get the best performance whether it be safety, performance, or wear.

Many many many times people step outside of these parameters and the tire is round and rolls. 1/2” away from manufactures recommendation for minimum rim width is probably not a safety issue, however will you get the best wear out of the tire, according to the manufacturer maybe not, would they stand beside their warranty probably not.

A lot of shops stray away because the country is caught up in litigation about everything anymore. CYA. you can find shops that will mount these, California I’m not sure.

Hell I took my powerstroker in for a last minute oil change, and the monkey was screwing with my tire pressures. I told him I just set them for the road trip. He said he is supposed to set them at what the placard indicates. Told him to set them back, and they put a disclaimer on the invoice indicating what I wanted for tire pressures.

 

This is who I would recommend, depending where in SoCal you are. They do a great job working with the customers schedule.

 

It all depends on the shop. Some will go by the book of the tire manufacturer’s specifications due to liability issues. Other shops will gladly take your money and put to big of a tire on to small of a wheel. In my opinion, follow the tire manufacturers wheel specifications for the tire.

 

Yeah I was going to wait to do wheels and tires at the same time, but since I’m going to be moving across the nation (again) in the next few weeks, moving costs have eaten away at that possibility. I needed tires anyway since mine are somewhat dry rotted, 50k miles, and all have at least one plug in them. I was going to do 255/85 or stock size but I was able to get a great deal on 5 new Toyo RTT for half off. So this setup is very temporary. Literally just until I get to the new destination and then new wheels will be mounted.

 

Great tire i just had a set of them. Only downfall in when they are on wet asphalt they spin like no other
