New 2024 TRD Pro - Only One Key - Is this still a thing?

I just received my new 4Runner from an out of state dealer and it only came with one key. Dealer claims that is how it came from Toyota and my local dealer will give me a free one. I have done searches and read a bunch of threads, and see that this was an issue in the past. I haven't seen much that was recent however. Is this really still a thing in 2024?

 

I got 2 keys but it was in Canada. I didn't get hitch trailer ball though - just a paper saying that they will send it to me when it becomes available.

 

They should come with two remote key fobs - very expensive to replace/reprogram.

Now I feel really spoiled. I got 3 keys when I bought my 2023 4Runner! Maybe they stole if from you?

 

This sounds like horsesh*t to me. I just brought home my '24 Limited last week and as received 2 key fobs...as did the other 4 buyers I was watching leave the dealership while sitting bored out of my mind, waiting for my sales guy try to remove the license plates off my trade in. I think someone is pulling your Johansen

Those of us that only received one key had a sticker on the rear driver-side window. The sticker indicates "To be removed by customer". Did you have that on your 4Runner?

 

No, nothing in the back window or in the glovebox indicating I am due another key.

 

I've purchased many new Toyota cars in the pass 10 years. All came with 2 key fobs.

 

Have you checking in with your local dealership?

 

My '23 SR5 came with one. Dealer supplied a free fob/key. Had the dealership program it and cut the key. Contacted Toyota Corp in Texas with a pleasant message and copy of the work receipt from the dealership. They responded with a Thank You for Toyota patronage and reimbursed me the full amount of the program/key cut. Took about 6-8 weeks for the check but came in and cashed!

 

My Pro bought in March came with 2

 

My 2023 SR5 came with 2

My 2023 Prius Prime came with 1 key. About 6 months later a letter arrived in the mail stating that a 2nd key was now available for my dealer to order and program for free.

 

Wow... supply shortages still?!

If the Dealer said they'd call you to come back and get a free key eventually, I'd definitely be getting that in writing. Just sayin'

Yeah, I agree this is probably the correct approach. I also found it fishy that this was never communicated to me and I was not aware until I received the truck. I asked the shipper for the second key and he said that the dealer said that they would mail it to me. I then had to go asking about it. I would think this is something you would tell the buyer when purchasing the vehicle, and it would be documented on one of those "We Owe" things you sign as part of the paperwork. Even once I get the key, which will no doubt be after a bunch of follow ups, I will have to go get it programmed, which is another hassle.

 

24 Pro - January - 2 keys.

 

Get your dealership to provide you with another key, free of charge.

And I believe that I read here recently someone got a copy for $100 at their local Ace Hardware. Just for future knowledge.

 

2023 Bought last Nov. 2 Key Fobs. Never ever bought a new vehicle W/out 2 Keys, even a 3d for valet parking W/some new vehicles.

 

You better hope there is never a 4runners meet, Im going to find you and say something mildly rude. And then roll away on my Grandtek stockies.

 

Spoke to my local dealer about the key (probably should have started there) and was able to get some info. Apparently there still are some lingering key shortages, but they ran my VIN and my truck is not impacted. So back to the original dealer to get them to cover the cost of the key key as well as the programming.

OP, I think the selling dealer is pissin' on your boots and tellin' you it's raining.

I bought my 23 ORP used and it came with 1 key fob. I contacted Toyota and got a second key fob for free. They will run the vin to see if your’s qualifies. Good luck.
